– An Indian couple decided to name their newborn twins covid and corona
– They made the decision to remind them of all the hard times they conquered to have a successful delivery
– Over one million people worldwide have contracted the virus
A couple in India have named their newborn twins after the dreaded coronavirus.
The parents, Vinay and Preeti Verma, welcomed their beautiful twins on March 27 at Doctor Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur, India.
According to the couple, they named their twins COVID and Corona as a symbol of triumph over hardship during the lockdown ahead of successful delivery.
However, the couple noted that they might rename their children at a later stage.
“I was blessed with the twins – a boy and a girl – in the early hours on March 27. We have named them COVID (boy) and Corona (girl) for now,” Preeti Verma told the Press Trust of India.
According to Verma, coronavirus is a threat to life, but it has made people focus on sanitation and other good habits.
“Indeed, the virus is dangerous and life-threatening, but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene, and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names,” she said.
She also disclosed that the hospital staffs were behind the idea of naming their newborn twin corona and COVID.
“When the hospital staff also started calling the babies as Corona and COVID, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic,” she said.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Shubhra Singh said, the twins were delivered through a caesarian.
The mother and the newborns were later discharged in good health.
