She is 29 weeks pregnant and can’t have her husband by her side, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. When she first got admitted, it was rough because her husband could not visit her and be by her side.
The hospital has strict social distancing rules that prohibited visits. They were left to talk on Zoom and FaceTime.
Fortune smiled on them; she was moved to a room on the 4th Floor with a window to the outside. Her husband got a brilliant idea; to bring date nights to her!
Bob Starts Weekly Date Nights
When Robert learned that Shona’s room had a window to the outside, she asked her out on a date. She said yes, expecting a ZOOM date. But he showed up; set the table on a sidewalk, which was decorated with flowers and candles. He set up his lawn chair and FaceTimed her.
Robert had the food order delivered to her. The nurses gave her the package and told her to look out the window. And there was her husband, with a placard, sitting outside waiting to have a date with her.
They had their date on FaceTime as he sat on the sidewalk. “It felt like he had traveled the world to come see me,” said the pleasantly surprised Shona.
“Every gesture feels monumental and lovely and sweet in this time where I am by myself” she said.
Since then, this has become their weekly ritual.
Shona Gets Admitted At AMITA HAMC, Illinois
It all started when Shona Moeller and Robert Conlin, a Chicago couple, were decorating the nursery for their first child. Shona’s water broke at 20 weeks!
After staying in the house for a short while, they decided to go to AMITA Health Adventist Medical Centre in fear of losing their little one.
When Shona was first admitted on the 13th of April 2020, she was put on bed rest. The complications, the doctors said, showed less than 1% of their child’s survival. However, after several weeks, Shona’s son, Forest, held on strong.
According to Dr. Monique Brotman, Shona’s OBGYN, the outlook is much better than it was when she first got admitted. The chances of having their baby born healthy have now risen to 5%.
Shona’s Baby Shower at AMITA Medical Centre
When the staff at AMITA Medical Centre learned that Shona’s baby shower had been canceled, they decided to have Forest’s shower at the hospital. Bob was taken aback when Shona FaceTimed him to be part of the shower.
He was grateful that the nurses were taking care of his wife emotionally as well, especially at this time when she has to spend a lot of time away from him.
A Ray of Hope
The hospital has confirmed that it will allow Conlin into the delivery room. Conlin said he has his bag already packed ready to go when they tell him that Shona is in labor. In the meantime, they started a GoFundMe page to help cater to Moeller’s week’s long hospital stay.
